videos.me vs Memento, honestly.
Memento is the platform that used to be VidHug, relaunched under this name after Punchbowl acquired it in 2021, so it has been collecting group videos longer than almost anyone in the category. It runs two products rather than one: Group Videos, which is our mechanism, and Shared Albums for photographs. There is an iOS app if you want one, and a library of more than a hundred articles on what to say at a birthday, a retirement or a memorial. None of that is small.
Two differences decide most of it, and both come off their own pages. Their contributors create a sign-in after clicking the link; ours record and send without an account of any kind. And their price is not published anywhere a reader can see it: memento.com/pricing redirects to a login, their sitemap has no pricing page, and the figures in circulation elsewhere are other people’s numbers, not theirs. Ours is on our pricing page, in writing, which is the comparison we can actually make.
| videos.me | Memento | |
|---|---|---|
| What the price is charged by | The videos you receive: $0.35 each, or flat bundles $7.99 / $19.99 / $34.99, bought once for that collection | A subscription, required to finish and share; their pages cap a video at 60 minutes of content |
| Is the price published | Yes, on our pricing page and in the page’s structured data | No: memento.com/pricing redirects to a login, and their sitemap has no pricing page |
| Contributor needs an account | No. They open the link and record, and never create anything | Yes. Their how-it-works page says invitees create a free sign-in after clicking the link |
| App to install | None, for anyone | Not required; an optional iOS app for contributors who want it |
| Contributor experience | Record in the browser, no app, no account | Record in the browser or the app, after the sign-in step |
| Downloading the finished video | Download the film in full quality | MP4 download sits on their Platinum tier, per their FAQ |
| When you pay | After videos arrive; on pay as you go, nothing if no one replies | A subscription is required before you can finish and share |
| Photographs | Contributors can add a photo; photos ride along free and never use a video slot, up to 20 on a free collection | Shared Albums, a separate product of theirs built for photos |
| How long the finished film can run | We do not meter by length, so the price does not move with it | Up to 60 minutes of content, per their pages |
Where Memento wins
- A free preview of up to three clips before you commit to anything, which is a genuine try rather than a tour.
- Shared Albums is a whole second product for photographs, where ours ride along inside a video collection.
- An iOS app, for contributors who would rather use one than a browser tab.
- A library of more than a hundred articles on what to actually say, which is the part most organisers are stuck on.
- Longer in the category than we are: the VidHug years count, even under a different name.
Where videos.me wins
- No account between the link and the clip: your contributors never sign up, so the step most likely to lose them is not there.
- You can read our price before you start, including in the structured data an assistant reads.
- One purchase for that collection rather than a subscription to remember to cancel.
- Price tracks participation: on pay as you go it is $0.35 a video, and nothing if no one replies.
Memento facts read from memento.com, /how-it-works, /faq, their help centre and their sitemap, 27 October 2026, and re-read on 1 November 2026: unchanged, including the three-clip free preview and the 60-minute cap, both of which are stated on their Group Video Pricing help article. No price appears on any of those pages, so none is quoted here: the figures circulating in third-party articles are not their published prices and we will not treat them as such. Their features and prices are theirs to change; check their site for current details.
How much does Memento cost?
They do not publish it. Their how-it-works page and their FAQ both say a subscription is required to finish and share a video, neither names a figure, memento.com/pricing redirects to a login screen, and there is no pricing page in their sitemap. Figures do circulate in third-party articles and in a competitor’s comparison table, and we are not going to repeat them as though they were prices, because a number that appears only in articles about a company is a lead rather than a price. Ours is $0.35 per video received, or a flat $7.99, $19.99 or $34.99, and it is on our pricing page.
Do contributors need an account to send a video on Memento?
Their how-it-works page says invitees create a free sign-in after clicking the invitation link. On videos.me they do not: the link opens, they record, they send, and nothing asks them to make an account. Claiming a clip afterwards is optional and is the only place an account comes up at all. This is the difference we would weigh hardest, because the contributor step is where a collection either gets its first video or quietly does not.
Is Memento the same thing as VidHug?
Yes. Punchbowl acquired VidHug in 2021 and relaunched it as Memento, so reviews and articles about VidHug are describing the same platform under its earlier name. Worth knowing if you are reading older comparisons, because the name changed and the product did not restart.
Which one should I use for a photo collection?
If photographs are the point, their Shared Albums is built for exactly that and ours are not: on videos.me a contributor can add a photo and it rides along free without using a video slot, but the thing we make is a film. If what you want is one video that plays start to finish at the party, that is ours. If you want an album people browse, theirs is the product shaped for it.
Capture every angle of the moments you’ll never get back.
Two minutes to set up, free to create, and nothing to pay until you unlock your videos.
Will people actually record something?
They open the link and record in their browser. Nothing to install, and no account to make.
What if I set it up and nobody sends anything?
Creating a collection is free, and you pay when you unlock your videos. An empty collection costs you nothing.
What do I even ask people to say?
Every occasion page here comes with prompt ideas you can send as they are, or write your own.
